In Klang Valley, there is only place for bah kut teh, and that is Klang. I have been to many bah kut teh (or BKT in short) places, but to me one place beats all of them flat, and that is Ah Her in Pandamaran.
If you’re coming from PJ (like me) or KL, Pandamaran is very deep into Klang. Near the port area. In Pandamaran, or generally Klang, you can find a BKT shop at almost every corner of every other block. I was told that almost all of them are of a decent quality and really good, compared to the ones you’d get in KL or PJ.
Ah Her, to me, is the king of them. It’s only open for 4 hours a day, from 5pm to 9pm. Usually by 8ish pm, they would have run out of meat or soup and will turn people away from its doors. The location is very old school. It feels more like going to an open air canteen of a warehouse or factory, so if you’re looking for ambience, go away.
If you don’t mind the drive, you don’t mind the environment, you don’t mind the ridiculously short amount of time they sell, you don’t mind the rather terse and busy wait staff and don’t mind a long wait for your food … then you’re in for a hell of a time.
Coz when the stuff comes, it is Heaven in many mini bowls. Unlike the soupier BKTs out of Klang, this one has that proper Klang trademark style of having very thick, almost stew-like consistency soup and in very little quantity. Try asking for more soup and the waitresses will look at you like you’re asking for gold. Well, with that kind of taste, I guess the soup is really gold. Liquid gold.

Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous pieces of succulent and tender pork oozing with delicious fats and oil mingled in powerfully herbal soup seasoned just right. Eat it with white fluffy rice and condiments of garlic and cili padi. No one speaks when they’re busy chomping down on good ole Ah Her BKT.
There’s also a distinct lack of other stuff such as fu chok or eu char koay or mushrooms or other stuff. I’m not sure if they serve it but looking at other tables, everyone seems to be there for one thing and one thing only: the pork. And you can’t blame them. Because it is that DAMN good.
For people who want to know what the fuss is all about for Klang BKT, there is no other place you should go other than this one.

RATING

Pricing: 6.5/10 – Slightly above the standard Klang pricing for BKT. I suspect its popularity may have something to do with this.

Quality: 9/10 – Extremely good. Pork super fresh and superbly compliments the BKT soup.

Environment: 4/10 – Like a run-down canteen of a factory or a warehouse. You feel like you’re eating out of an open air kitchen of a very old community hall. Adds to the charm of the experience.

Service: 6/10 – Depending on the crowd, which is usually thick and demanding. No time for frills or niceties. You go there you get down to business, order, eat and leave.

Location: 5/10 – Deep into Pandamaran in Port Klang. May be a bit far for non Klangites. But worth the drive if you’ve got a hankering for BKT.

Comeback Factor: If I am entertaining out of towners who wants to taste the best BKT in Malaysia.
