Our search for Saturday lunch nearby brought us to a small little shop literally 2 blocks from our place selling traditional kampung-style Kelantanese food called Kesom. Had also remembered my neighbour recommending it online before.

Great food at fantastically reasonable prices with pleasant, chilled out ambience.

Their Nasi Kerabu was delicious (and I am a huuuuge kerabu fan). The freshness of the diced kacang botol, lemongrass and other herbs blend perfectly with coconut shavings, perfectly fragrant blue rice and all brought together by power packed sambal belachan which was crazy good. Their ayam goreng berempah that accompanied the dish was perfectly fried and juicy on the inside.

My wife had Nasi Dagang with Gulai Ayam Kawah and it was succullent. Fluffy steamed rice with great acar and a savoury thick gulai which was fantastic with every slurp. They even had a special type of yellow chilli specially brought in from the Kelantan-Thai border which had a great taste and slow after burner effect which packed a punch.
We had a side accompaniment of great tasting keropok lekor which came with steaming hot portion of sweet sauce dip. Awesome.
All that, together with a sirap bandung and Apa Drink (concoction of lime, mint and assam) came up to RM30 only. 15 per pax for great Malay food with drinks and side in a cosy airconditioned restaurant is quite rare these days.So if you have a craving for some authentic Melayu (food, that is) which is homemade and has no MSG, give Kesom a try.

It will be a bonus too if you are, like me, worried that true Malay culture is slowly disappearing and being displaced by over-Arabification of the Malays, then please do support places which harks back to beautiful Malay culture (of gadis jelita in plunging neckline kebayas and sarongs).

Pricing: 8.5/10 – great value for money authentic Kelantanese fare in an aircond establishment in Klang Valley.

Quality: 8.5/10 – fresh, tasty and authentic tastes

Environment: 7.5/10 – sharing a premise with a boutique lends a sort of charm to this chilled out place.

Service: 8/10 – polite and attentive waitresses and very friendly owner (if she is there).

Location: 7/10 – along the commercial area of Aman Suria. not too hard to find though parking may be hard to come by during peak hours.

Comeback Factor: yessss, I foresee being a regular here
